Bull Fighting in Fujairah
Having lived in Dubai the last 6 years, the weekend road trips have taken me on many adventures across the seven Emirates. And one of the adventures that really stood out for me was the old tradition of Bullfighting in Fujairah.
Bull fighting in Fujairah is a 60-year old plus Bedouin tradition that has been kept alive by the proud Emiratis and UAE residents. The owners of the bull’s gather each week to stage fights to determine which of their animals are the strongest. There are no matadors and there is no money involved.
The clashes are not brutal or bloody as the fights that take place in places such as Spain or Portugal. The bullfights are less about bloodletting and more about the animal’s strength and the owner’s pride.

The fights take place each Friday afternoon in a fenced off ring situated along Fujairah's corniche area. Each fight lasts around 4 minutes with the bulls head-butting each other from close quarters. The competition is unlike other bull fighting events in the world.
