Claypot Men of Masafi
Masafi is located on the edge of the Hajar mountains, on the road between Fujairah and Dubai. The area is an oasis, renowned for its fresh water springs, pottery, wadis and the expansive Friday market that offers a wide range of goods.
Along the Al Dhaid - Masafi road before reaching the town of Masafi, you'll stumble upon a row of potteries. These present day potteries are all operated by expatriates from the Indian subcontinent.
One worker can make up to a hundred small bowls or ornaments, but large pots can take up to two or three days to finish. Rows of pots, figurines and bowls are set out to dry – a process that takes several days.
It can take workers between six months to one year, to learn and perfect the craft of pottery making.
